Little Flower Farmstay, Vagamon
Nestled in the rolling hills of vagamon, this farm stay is primarily a biodiversity restoration project run by a retired botany professor and her family.
If a family can come together and convert a grass and tea dominated slopes into a bio-diverse landscape within two decades, ultimately creating a self sustained living environment, I can’t but dream what all we can do to create a greener sustainable future within two decades.

As sustainability and ecological balance being the need of the hour, I loved every second spent in this place. This home-stay is perfect place for people who wants to experience nature in her raw beauty. Head on further to know what sets them apart!
Walk into the fairy tale like setting
We were taken aback the moment we entered the farm stay. With a fairy tale like setting of garden full of blooms and varied colors, it looked as if we were in some foreign land.
I loved walking up the flower kissed path and being in complete awe of this charming homestay.
Experience nature in her raw beauty
While entering the home-stay, we could hear a pleasant whistling sound. Upon check-in, we assumed it to be some kinda melody being played by the hosts. When we went to the dining area to meet our hosts, we were informed that the whistling sound is from Malabar whistling thrush.
Room that speaks of their sustainability
Rooms in the home-stay were minimalist with a splendid balcony opening to the view of the farm below. From not providing single use mineral water bottles in rooms to consciously using soaps made by a women’s collective, their room speaks of sustainability in every aspect.
How did I forget to mention? Their rooms didn’t have television which was a boon for me, as that would be a perfect digital detox I wanted for both of us. (P S : Hubby wasn’t happy as he couldn’t watch cricket match😜)
Relish the scrumptious food
The best part about their food is that the dishes are prepared using their farm fresh produce or using locally sourced produce from small farms in the neighborhood.
From passion fruit to rose apple to mango, they grow their own organic fruits and vegetables. I still remember vividly the taste of mango fruit I munched during my stay. That was one of the best mangoes I ever had.
Burn calories hiking the laid-out trails
There are marked hiking trails all along the farm. As most of the hiking trails are on a slope, get ready to burn some calories. The views and the flora all along did compensate for the energy spent hiking.
And also each level of the trail is made interesting with local names like Kalari, Thattakam.
Explore the farm bounties
As the fruits and vegetables in the farm are not grown in a specific place, you can splurge your time locating the pockets of vegetables and spice garden all along the hiking trails.
We loved discovering the plants scattered all around the property.
Plunge into the natural pool “Urava”
This pool is created in such a way that water fills up the pool naturally during monsoons. Hold your breath and dive into the pristine water of the natural pool for a memorable swim of your life. As we went in May, we couldn’t get to swim in the natural pool. Yet another reason to plan a monsoon trip to Little flower farms.
Have a private celebrations in Kalari
Barbeque with your crew or have a get together planned in Kalari amidst nature to rekindle the joy of good old times. The vibe of this place is sure to instill a great joy.
Unwind with a book in the wooden deck “Thattakam”
This wooden deck at the top level of the farm stay is something which made our stay extra special. After having tea in pranasala, it had become a ritual for us to hike to the top to soak in the peacefulness of morning.
You can either choose to lose yourself in the beauty of the valley overlooking the deck or unwind with a book in the nice sit outs of Thattakam. On a clear night, you can also do stargazing.
Camp along the upper slopes of the farm
Camping along the upper slopes of the farm offers scenic panoramas of nearby ranges. Separate rest rooms are also available for camping experiences.Listen to the natural orchestra
By natural orchestra, I not only mean the pleasant whistling sound of malabar whistling thrush, but also the eerie sound created by crickets and frogs late in the evening. We were awestruck at the bountiful of birds singing to numbers all through the day.
Marvel at the eco-sensitive small actions being taken at the homestay
Each and every element of this farm stay has been crafted keeping in mind the conservation and sustainability of nature. From harvesting rain water to consciously reducing the waste produced, they are taking eco-sensitive actions to be totally sustainable.
And also what sets them apart is that their sense of contributing to a local community by hiring and upskilling them.
Activities
From arranging an off-road jeep ride to guided trekking in nearby ranges, the farm stay hosts has got the right local contact to get you covered. Feel free to discuss with them for arranging activities around Vagamon.
I would highly recommend this place for those seeking a quiet and peaceful getaway amidst pristine nature accompanied by a delectable organic home-cooked food.
Having maintained a small home garden myself, I know what it takes to maintain a hectare of farm with varied species that will require individual attention during months of harsh winds and monsoons.
Every journey is a gentle reminder to let us know that we are just a speck in the vast universe. And the journey to this home-stay had instilled in me that my journey in this world should be something worthwhile.

Though Airbnb showed INR 4500 per room in their site when I had booked, I preferred booking directly as that would support the home-stay instead of big corporation.
