Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, City of Destiny stunned us with its beautiful mix of mountain ranges, beaches and temples. Visakhapatnam is a lively city to plan a holiday for kids and adults alike. One of the added advantage is its offbeat location, as not many venture to Vizag except Bengalis and Telugu people.
Jump in to know what all we did in our two days in Vizag.
Witness exquisite display of animals in Vizag zoo
Animals are something which my little boy enjoys seeing. In every city we travel, we made it a norm to visit Zoological park of that city for our kid.
Vizag zoo covering 625 acres of land was well-maintained with exquisite display of animals with varying sections like mammals, nocturnal, reptiles and birds sections.
After seeing the Zoo map, Little V was excited about seeing Lemurs. Vizag zoo had Lemurs, Mormoset, Nilgai, Porcupine and many more unique animals in display.
Take a rope car ride to Kailasagiri peak
Rope car rides to Kailasagiri peak is one of the best touristy thing to do in Visakapatnam. Rope car rides were brilliant with jaw dropping views of East coast and Visakapatnam city.
Pl do note that rope car rides are not operational during lunch time (1:00 PM to 2:00 PM). Plan your itinerary accordingly.
Let your kid explore the well-maintained parks in Kailasagiri peak
When you are with kids, you search for parks in every place you visit. Kailasagiri peak is a dream destination for your kid with so many exclusive kids activities. From kid’s play area to animal sculptures hide-out to toy train ride to 7D show, Kailasagiri peak has everything your kid will desire in an outing.
Kailasagiri peak has many photogenic places as well. It is well maintained with pavements, trees and lawn. Eateries and shops for souvenir are also available. If possible, plan to go to Kailasagiri peak during weekdays to avoid the crowd and enjoy the place fully.
Relish MLA Potlam Biryani in Spice Venue Restaurant
MLA Potlam biryani is not an ordinary biryani you get. Biryani was folded inside a thin sheet of omelette. Flavourful minced meat was put inside biryani to add to its richness.
Spice Venue restaurant stands up to its name by its biryani’s spiciness(Wink!). As we enjoy spicy food, we ordered medium spice. You can inform them about your spice preference.
Having read about MLA potlam biryani, we savored it on the last day of the trip. We also ordered traditional style mutton gravy with mango. Taste was unique and delicious. Spice Venue is a fine dining restaurant. You can book tables well ahead if you want to avoid the queue.
Spend a calm evening in Lumbini park
Lumbini park was one of the highlights of our trip. We stumbled upon this park when we were walking towards restaurant. Upon entering, Lord Buddha statue kept in the center provided a calm vibe to the place.
Having gone on a weekday, only few people were there making it even more beautiful. On rear-side of the park, a small beach and a temple were there. Park is very well-maintained with brand new kids play area. Little V had a whale of time in the kid’s play area.
Experience INS Kurusura Submarine museum
INS Kurusura Submarine museum is one thing that shouldn’t be missed in your Vizag itinerary. Isn’t it a rare opportunity to experience a decommissioned submarine?
As Little V is aware of submarines through books, we wanted to show this museum to him. Little V was inquisitive about so many valves. It is one of the best educational experience for kids. Guides were available telling about the submarine history and operations.
Rejuvenate yourself in Vizag beaches
Vizag reminded me so much of Goa with its beaches along the cliff. Vizag Beaches are breath-taking with its stunning coastline.
East coast drive in Vizag is one of the most underrated. On our last day, we embarked to RK beach and watched the sky turning colours.
Visit the famed Araku Valley
Just a fews hours drive from Vizag, Araku Valley is a must visit destination in ur Vizag trip. From borra caves to stunning waterfalls to beautiful fields, Araku is a perfect destination which offers a peaceful getaway near Vizag.
I would suggest staying overnight in Araku to experience it fully. Do check out the blogpost on Araku for detailed itinerary.
