Allepey and Athirapally
Sometimes all u want is just soaking up yourself in the lap of nature where you can just live like a nomad.
Even the tiniest bit of Kerala is in my bucket list. Not only for its serene nature, but also for its rich cuisine.
Food is the next thing which I love most after travel. When some place is ready to offer both the things you love at its best, who will say “No”.
I feel lucky enough to have a kerala roomie without whom I may not have savored the best of kerala cuisine.
And I should admit that I literally went on a binge in this trip.
Our trip started in Trissur in my roommate’s home with the best of food served with love by my roommate’s mother. After a delicious breakfast, we decided to start to Athirapally falls(The Baahubali Falls).
We were five and we started to falls in uncle’s car. Though I had already been to the falls during the second year of my college, the euphoria in me didn’t dwindle away. Climate was really hot. As soon as we reached athirapally, we drenched ourselves wet in the waters of athirapally to beat the heat.
After that, we climbed down the steps to reach the base of the falls. The water which was rushing from top, sprinkled waters on us. The hushing waters which formed a misty layer made the place even more picturesque.
My roommate was suggesting that we should taste food in Naatu Kadai. So we headed to Shoba city to satisfy our cravings. The food was exceptionally good. Karimeen Polichathu, Kappa, Parotta, Chicken roast and Duck roast. We ate to our heart’s content. We then settled upon watching a movie in the mall. “Charlie” came to our rescue. We started back to trissur by evening. While travelling to Trissur, we took the smaller roads to admire the beauty of houses built all along. Each house was unique and magnificent in its own way.
Next day early morning, we started in train from Trissur to Allepey. We got down in cherthala as that was the nearest railway station to the resort we had booked. We took an auto from cherthala to the Emerald Pristine Island resort.
The ravishing beauty of the resort made us spell bound. The reflections of the resort in the backwaters added to it’s captivating beauty. And all this for 1000 bucks. A sneak peek of a small friend while we waited for the boat to take us to the backwater resort.
A boat arrived to take us to the paradise on earth. The resort was built on the backwaters that gave the resort a floating effect. We checked in to our rooms. Rooms were remote controlled. We opened the doors of the balcony to witness the scenic backwaters. Seeing the balcony, I felt lucky to have brought my favorite book. The balcony had given a serene atmosphere for some peaceful reads.
At 4 pm, we all went on board for the sail. Our boat had set itself out in the backwaters of Allepey. We finished our lunch and were exploring the resort. We had booked shikara boat at 4 pm to take us to toddy shop(Not for the Toddy though!!). We had planned in such a way that we were able to witness sunset. I had 2 hrs in hand. So in the meantime, I decided to read book sitting in the balcony.
After an hour of sailing through the backwaters, we halted at the Toddy shop. Our friends had gone to the shop to get the side-dishes. Hot and spicy side-dishes were really lip-smacking. Kappa, Karimeen gravy, Prawns fry with shell on, Chooda fish fry(Podimeen), Kakka fry(Clams roast).
We were treated with the amazing sunset on our return from Toddy shop.
Upon reaching the resort, we decided to play volley ball. The resort was fully lit by the time we started playing. We had a light dinner and dozed off as we had an early morning canoe ride.
Next day morning, we got up at 5:30 am and quickly refreshed to head out. As the canoe sailed through, quietness of the early morning would make you lose yourself into a different world.
Murky scenery of tall coconut trees studded alongside the backwaters with the songs of birds in the background and the old man in small canoe fishing in backwaters for his daily catch were eternal bliss.
You began to slow down and enjoy the present moment. Such was the stillness of the place. We plugged up our canoe to explore some of the nearby places. In that island, we came across a forsaken house and found it apt for a click. After meandering around, we returned to our stay.
The early morning rides would cast its own spell on the tranquility of the place. After having breakfast, we spent our time lazing around the resort.
As we had heard from a friend that Cassia restaurant in Allepey beach offered best food(Shraddha kapoor recent visit had made it even more popular:-P), we headed to Allepey beach for our lunch.
Restaurant didn’t let us down. We were in fact full on drooling seeing the platter itself that I forgot to take a click. Karimeen fry was the best.
Though I didn’t taste beef, I just couldn’t stop myself from mentioning about their Beef coconut fry(According to my friends, it was the best of all).
As the climate was really hot, we quickly went for a walk in the Allepey beach and headed to railway station to board our train.
